My book Won An Award! And it Feels A Little Arrogant to Share It With You

I'm excited, honored, proud, and a touch overwhelmed to announce that An Overachiever's Guide To Breaking The Rules won a Next Generation Indie Book Award!

This is the largest book award for independent and small presses and my book got top prize in the motivational category. Feels pretty good 😀

What's also true is that it feels WEIRD to share this news with you, especially since it comes just a few weeks after winning a different book award.

I happily shared the news with my parents and a few close friends. But sharing it publicly with all of you? It feels a little arrogant. A little like, "Look at me, aren't I awesome?!?"

This isn't imposter syndrome. I never thought the award was a mistake. I don't doubt the quality of the book or that it (or me!) is worthy of an award.

It's just the discomfort with taking up space. It's the uneasy feeling that comes from owning your achievements in front of other people.

It's the cultural rules saying that you're too big for your britches, arrogant, a know-it-all, bossy, direct, and whatever other words you might have been called when you HAVE shown up in all your radiance and glory.

Or heard others be called when THEY showed up in their radiance and glory.

And I want to break those rules. All day, every day.

There are a lot of reasons I want to break those rules, but here's the one pushing me to show up today: I firmly believe when we own our strengths and use them IN PUBLIC, that is how we will create the biggest impact. This is how we will change the world for the better.

It's not arrogant to know your value and worth. It's just being all of you, out in the world, making a difference.

So I'm here, sitting in both the excitement and the discomfort, and hitting post.

P.S. If you're interested in getting a copy of An Overachiever's Guide To Breaking The Rules, you can order signed, hardcover copies on my website (US only) or the paperback, audiobook, and eBook on Amazon (available globally). Read a sample HERE if you want a preview first!
