Knowing When To Stay The Course - and When to Make a Change

Last week I did a speaking engagement on Creating Your Own Rules For Success with the LATAM Speaker's Association (in a bilingual English-Spanish event! It was so fun to use my Spanish!) and I got two FANTASTIC questions. So good, I wanted to answer them for you, too!

Here they are:

👉 How do you know when to be persistent and stay the course - and when to make a change?

👉 How did you find the motivation to start saying no?

I'm going to tackle the first question today and the second one in my blog next week.

So how do you know when to be persistent and stay the course - and when to make a change?

In my experience, this comes down to four words: SLOW DOWN. TURN INWARD.

So often we TURN OUTWARD to figure out the right decision.

You ask your mentor or boss for their advice on where to take your career.

You poll your friends for what to do about your relationship.

You turn to podcasts, books, blogs, and a million other places outside of you for the answer.

I'll tell you a secret - none of them have the answers.

YOU have the answers. They were ALWAYS inside of you.

If you're like many people, you haven't been taught to trust your internal voice. You haven't been shown how to listen to the messages of your body and intuition.

In fact, many women in particular have been taught to COMPLETELY IGNORE or even MISTRUST their internal knowing and body signals.

That's why slowing down is also part of this equation. You have to create some space to listen to yourself.

The answers will arise eventually if you slow down and listen.

When they do, TRUST those answers. Trust yourself.

You can get new perspectives, thoughts, and feedback from other people. Some of it will be eye-opening and incredibly helpful.

But no matter how "good" the advice, it may or may not be right for you. Only you can answer that.

Only you can know whether to be persistent and stay the course - and when to make a change.

Slow down. Turn inward.

Then trust yourself.
